It’s a happy fashion new year and that means it’s time to forget all about pastel pink coats (surely?!) and turn our attention to florals, fondants and futuristic metallics.
Here’s a few of my 2014 fashion resolutions, which I’m hoping to stick to for more than the standard ten days…
1 BANISH THE BALLETS
Given that I live in Scotland and eleven months out of twelve seem to feature torrential rain and grey skies, it might be time to accept that my ballet shoes are only suitable for indoor wear. Last year I’m sure I was on the verge of trench foot after spending many a day and night skipping through puddles in my soaking wet ballet shoes. Enough already! I got these River Island boots in the sale recently for £30, total steal.
2 SAVE FOR CHANEL
The amount of quilted faux leather bags with chain straps I own is frightening. Just as I have an exact taste in men, I seem to have developed an exact taste in handbags. The Chanel classic flap bag is clearly the object of my desire so I should stop dreaming and start saving. Or keep buying those Euromillions tickets.
3 INVEST IN SUNGLASSES
I love sunglasses and buy as many pairs as I lose in any given year but this year I’m going to treat myself to a designer pair in the hope I’ll take better care of them. A classic pair of Marc by Marc Jacobs cat eye sunglasses have been on my wish list for a while and although they’re pricier than my standard 3 for £10 styles I regularly buy every time I visit Portobello Road, they’re not in the tragically expensive category. Here’s hoping I keep them safe so that by the time we’ve moved on from winter to summer sun I’ll have some chic sunnies to hide behind.
4 EMBRACE THE MONDAY BLUES
I can’t be the only one that always looks less than polished on a Monday. It really does take me until Tuesday to pull myself together and find something that remotely resembles an outfit for work. I blame the combination of too much thinking over the weekend’s party outfits and a general lack of enthusiasm that the working week has begun, but this year I need to make an effort to change this tired pattern. If you can’t feel good on a Monday you can at least try to look good right? I’ll start with steering clear of sombre head to toe black and embracing colour…
5 START WEARING EARRINGS AGAIN
With so much focus on the statement necklace last year every other item of jewellery I own has been banished to the bottom of my trinket box. Once upon a time I would feel majorly underdressed if I left the house for a night out without a pair of earrings so it’s amazing that I now can’t remember the last time I wore a pair. This year I’m bringing them back!
